Bachelor of Education – Elementary Teacher Education (Pre-K to 8)
This four-year Bachelor of Education program in Elementary Teacher Education (offered through the University of Regina and North West College) allows students to meet the requirements for Teacher Certification in Saskatchewan and prepares them to teach in Pre‑K to Grade 8 schools. Through research‑informed and experiential learning, students develop the professional attitudes, knowledge, and skills needed to teach in increasingly diverse and complex classrooms.
Students gain experience with innovative and responsive teaching practices, including equitable assessment and evaluation, teaching and learning in a digital world, teaching for multiple literacies, and responding to learning, behavioural, and health challenges in schools. The program is offered locally through North West College with extensive field experience in school settings, beginning in the first year and building toward a semester‑long internship under the daily supervision of a cooperating teacher.

Program Delivery at North West College
As this program is offered through the University of Regina and North West College, students can earn a recognized Bachelor of Education degree close to home without relocating to a larger centre. Local delivery reduces financial and personal barriers while allowing students to train in and for their own communities and build strong community and school‑division connections. Remote options are available for our Meadow Lake students.
Students benefit from:
-
Community‑focused learning and practicum experiences in local schools.
-
A clear career pathway into high‑demand rural and regional teaching positions.
-
Block transfer options that can support a smoother pathway into the degree for eligible students.
Field Experience and Internship
The practicum experience begins in year one with an introduction to schools and exploration of the various roles in education. More intensive development occurs in the pre‑internship year (year three), where education courses are coordinated with practicum placements over two semesters to connect theory and practice. A full semester‑long internship in the final stages of the program has become a flagship component of the Faculty of Education’s approach to preparing new teachers.
